Along the way, you’ll acclimatize at Shiptons Camp, explore the summit circuit, and tackle the challenging North Face route to reach Batian Peak.

Around 7:00 am, depart from Nairobi and drive to Nanyuki town, enjoying scenic views along the way. From Nanyuki, proceed to the Sirimon Gate, the starting point for your trek. Today’s hike covers approximately 9 km through montane forest, bamboo zones, and alpine moorlands, gradually ascending to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 meters. Along the trail, take time to admire the rich flora, the unique mountain scenery, and the distant peaks of Mt. Kenya. Arrive at camp in the late afternoon, settle in, enjoy a hearty dinner, and rest for the night in preparation for the ascent ahead.

After breakfast, continue your trek uphill towards Shiptons Camp at 4,200 meters. The hike will take around 6–7 hours, passing through increasingly rugged terrain and spectacular alpine landscapes. This section includes moorlands and rocky outcrops, offering fantastic views and ample opportunities for photographs. Upon arrival at Shiptons Camp, enjoy dinner and a restful night to aid in acclimatization for the challenging climb ahead.

Today is dedicated to acclimatization and preparation for the technical climb. Depending on the weather and equipment checks, you can explore the surrounding areas on short walks, familiarize yourself with your climbing gear, and take time to rest. This is an important day to let your body adjust to the high altitude while enjoying the unique alpine environment.
Overnight: Shiptons Camp (4,200 m)
Begin the day with a hike along the summit circuit path to reach 4,650 meters, approaching the base of the rock-climbing route to Batian Peak. This trek allows you to test your gear, check weather conditions, and get a feel for the technical climb ahead. After spending time at the rock-climbing base, descend back to Shiptons Camp for a relaxed evening, dinner, and overnight stay.

An early start at 04:30 am marks the most challenging day of the trek. Ascend from Shiptons Camp to the base of the North Face route, where you will begin the technical climb to Batian Peak, the highest point of Mt. Kenya at 5,199 meters. The round trip typically takes 9–11 hours, depending on conditions and climbing pace. Upon successful return, enjoy a well-earned dinner at Shiptons Camp and rest after this strenuous and exhilarating climb.

After the demanding summit day, spend the day resting and recuperating at Shiptons Camp. Take gentle walks around the camp area, enjoy the alpine scenery, and reflect on the achievement of reaching Batian Peak. This day also allows for recovery from the technical climb and preparation for descent the following day.

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning hike through the bamboo forest for about 10 km along the Chogoria descent route. The trail gradually winds down through lush forest and scenic valleys, offering a gentle end to your trekking adventure. At the trailhead, transfer by vehicle to Chogoria town, where you will board a shuttle bus back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
